ok i am making some changes I have not really implemented any sort of danger level system for my monsters and while I have included harmless and benign monsters im just going to throw this out there i will now be including monsters that will be considered pets. I will also be loosening my restrictions on the harder to find spanish monsters as well as fakelore monsters for my project and I am just going to see what happens.

hmm just realizing the standard of weirdness I hold angels and demons to in my project is going to have to extend to the gods.

ok so I have some lore ideas rattling around in my head and I want to get out there. ok so on page one i went into some detail about magic in the Bestiary Compendium worlds
examples for a refresher
- magic being like a natural element that is in the air but distributes itself oddly sometimes even forming a magical fog sometimes even creating drips and puddles of liquid magic/ turning water into liquid magic, and even forming solid chunks of magic - the solid magic is what most of the gemstones and relics decorating magic staves/scepters/wands and other magical equipment are made from. and it greatly increases magic power - liquid magic is good for potions - areas that are in a magic fog greatly increase the power of spells cast in them possibly dangerous to the caster. -magic is slightly different in all worlds ex fairy magic is stronger but makes them weak to iron in our world. - most magical species and individuals have been mutated by high exposure to magic- even ones from earth - normal and magical beasts will often eventually develop a decent resistance to these changes and those species sticka round instead of mutating out of control - almost all people can learn magic through hard work and practice but most that excel at it were born with more magic potential in them.
alright on to some completely new lore - i said touching solid magic had the greatest chance of mutating any who touched it into a magical creature but I *might* backtrack on that - gods, demons, fairies and spellcasters can all enchant or curse weapons, armor, and objects both temporarily or permanently. - gods and goddesses of magic like hecate can control the magic levels in that area if attacked or stolen from they can lower or cut off the magic of those who antagonized them. - or increase the magic power of those who have shown a devotion to learning magic
- magic using humans will not be as human as i originally intended some magic users will for example have fairies, gods, or other being in their lineage changing their magic and what spells they can learn. - they also will have a tendency to experiment on themselves causing them to gain mutations that change their appearance, abilities, their species may be changed to spellcaster/mage/witch as they may no longer be human- but are not a type monster either - this is where green skinned witched come from too. - magic used incorrectly- especially these transformations spells and ESPECIALLY dark forbidden spells will turn a mage into Dark Witches- sometimes losing most intelligence sometimes retaining it they are turned into particularly evil inclined monsters. one example would be a striga/strix/strigoi but a more powerful spellcaster falling into this corruption might become something much stronger.
alright now im going to try to organize some of my spellcasters into covens, classes, and other typpes
Classes - mage/sorcerer/sorceress- well rounded, all the elemental spells, summon constructs and familiars, summon demons, buffs, debuffs, healing - cleric- buffs, and actually good healing spells, and shields - necromancer- undead stuff. - dreamer- to start with they cast sleep on themselves and enemies. they can enter the dream world to fight dream and nightmare creatures. while asleep they can enter the head of enemies to essentially beat up personifications of enemies strengths and fears weakening the enemy and then using those fears and other nightmare creatures against them. abilities- auto sleep- cast sleep on self at beginning of battle - sleepwalker- move around while asleep - tame- tame weakened dream creature - shared dream- bring sleeping allies into the dream world - wake up call- ejects sleeping allies to wake them up - and many more - cursebreaker- specializing in identifying cursed equipment and objects and breaking all sorts of curses. they can also safely wield cursed weapons of any kind and are stronger when doing so when they strike an opponent with a curse weapon they can cure the opponent they can also do a more powerful strike that removes the curse from the weapon but hits the enemy with explosive magical force. - exorcist- a subclass that any other class can have specializing in fighting demons and to and extent fairies. they will have spells to eject demons and ghosts that possess people, magic weakening circles, anti demon chants and sutras. wield silver weapons ideally - and based on a pun from tumblr that i can no longer find there will be a spell called CAST IRON ( get it?) it magically raises and iron fence up that smacks nearby enemies in the face and in general causes them trouble if they cannot fly or leap over it. exorcists will learn this spell easier than all other magic classes
Covens/ Guilds - The butterfly people- said to appear after natural disaster like hurricane katrina to help people. I will be changing them mostly they will not have literal butterfly wings but instead use floating spells and wear intricate colorful robes - Ravenmockers- feared and hated by other spellcaster as they will attack other spellcaster, drain peoples lives, and eat hearts for their dark magic purposes. - Obayifo- a shifty eyed coven from Africa that fly around at night are obsessesed with food and have glowing phosphoerescent armpits and anus. is this because of their overflowing magic power? or a change they bring upon themselves for some other reason? one would have to join to find out - Elbow Witches- the only benefit for joining this coven is sharp blades magically attaches to your elbows. rumors of cannibalism, dark magic, and member turning into hags are not unfounded but perhaps exaggerated. -Vedmak- basically like witchers from the popular series but preferring magic staves over swords and focusing more on hunting down people who use magic to harm others and less on monsters. also are dangerous and could lash out with terrible magic. -Christmas Witches- why not? for special christmas events join a coven with Befana and get up to some Christmas mischief and learn some odd new spells. - cunning folk-
types and special classes - Luidaeg I have decided that luidaeg or sea witches are not human however they once were but they made a choice to transform themselves and specialize in water related magic. essentially think Fujimoto from Ponyo they cannot stay on land for long periods of time with needing to cast a water spell on themselves - like Fujimoto but often with more sea themed adaptations and gear- ex big fish like eyes, horn-like coral decorations - their best staves will be trident themed - water spells are generally useless against water monster but they have a whole different spell list - bubble trap - traps small-medium sized enemy in bubble that will either float them to the surface to make them easy prey for flying allies or just trap and move farther away or completely out of the battle. does some damage due to air drowning too. easy to break out of tho - surf- summons water elementals to allow gliding or running on top of water. - summoning weaker fish type monster for help - grow and heal reefs use them to create a wall. - create a spinning whirlpool that traps and disorient some enemies
- Salbanelli- have fae lineage approximately 1/4 is the sweet spot fo their abilities to develop
to be continued.

looking back on this I am not sure about my attempts to categorize the monsters the way I did but for convenience I accept it
I should also note most of my lore ideas on dragons borrowed HEAVILY from Robin Hobbs " Realm of the Elderlings" series likely waaaay to heavily to have not given credit ( dragons eating rocks and minerals to strengthen their scales and such was mine tho)
and my lore about magic being misused potentially turning the user into a " dark witch" that is extremely powerful but loses intelligence was from " The Witch and the Hundred Knight"
anyway as part of trying to be the best version of my new self i'm going to get back to work on this research and worldbuilding not as consistently or with as much to add but i'm not going to give up again.

That's great cmg. I think the idea of dragons feeding on minerals and witches transforming into monsters due to overuse of dark magic are actually both fairly widespread fantasy tropes that I've seen a few times each. I believe metallic dragons in D&D feed on minerals, and witches mutating into monsters is a concept that QuirkyBestiary and I both use in our respective fantasy worlds. I wouldn't worry about stealing them from one specific fantasy story if I were you, though giving credit when due is generally a good idea.

you Know I have been trying to avoid it and separate it from a purely mythology based setting but maybe dnd monster categories with some slight alterations help me organize my list of mythological monsters a little more.

I think I am going to delete my document on creatures I have not decided to use in any projects yet, it has gotten too long, too messy, and format changes as its transferred between computers with Microsoft word and ones without it have left it even messier. I do fully intend to keep the work on 1000+ creatures I have already decided I can do art, writing, and ttrpg stat blocks on ( tho that is too long and getting messy too) but I think I want to start over with the search for more creatures and just look at each one individually and clearly with fresh eyes and just hope I don't mix them up with creatures already in my bestiary
I have been trying to get back into for a few years and that document is just overwhelming.
