On October 4th of 1965, three students of the Argentinian National School had a run-in with a bizarre entity quite unlike anything ever reported before or since. This school was located in Puerto Beltran, in the rural district of Loreto - and the account was published one day later in the Buenos Aires' newspaper 'La Cronica Matutina'. The three students (Luis Ramirez, Maria Abela Cabana and Rosa Carbajal) were walking to get water from a reservoir tank on the school's property when they were confronted by an anomalous being which 'rolled on the ground' in front of them.
Horrified, the children watched as the rotund monstrosity spun in circles around them at incredible speed - kicking up massive amounts of dust and dirt before it 'mysteriously vanished in a cloud of dust'. Very little description was given of the thing, except that it was big and round. No facial features, texture or colour were described.
In an interesting little book on UFOs and extraterrestrials published by Jader U. Pereira, the creature was speculated to have not actually been living, and to have instead been a vehicle for aliens. A UFO which chose to appear to three children, spin around quickly enough to kick up a dust devil, and then vanish instantly - as opposed to simply flying around as these craft are usually wont to do.
The reason I'm asking about this anomalous entity is because I recently listened to an episode about the case done by the wonderful 'Cryptonaut Podcast' - which I recommend you look into if you like cryptozoology and ufology. In the episode, they said that they didn't know much about Argentinian folklore and so were wondering if anyone else did. I was instantly reminded of various dust-devil spirits that I've heard about from Native American lore, but I couldn't remember their names. This is the sort of entity that I have a vague feeling must've been mentioned in folklore - probably as an elemental of some kind.
And so, monster lovers, I have a challenge for you! Identify the Gargantuan Globulous!
