So I came across this guy on Twitter with the description: "The Ci Tywyll is the name given to a ghostly black dog which roams the countryside of Pontyddim. With baleful breath and a single glowing eye, the creature's appearance is sometimes seen as an omen of death, but sometimes as a companion to the lonely." It looks like the twitter it comes from, Pontyddim, is actually a book. Thing is I know there's one eyed black dogs but I can't remember if they're in Wales or not.

The Ci Tywyll is new to me. Neither of the Welsh Black Dogs I was previously aware of, Gwyllgi and the Cwn Annwn, seem to be described with one eye in any major source I have for them. I know some variants of the legend give Black Shuck one eye, however.

Yeah, Black Shuck has a single eye in some descriptions. Pontyddim is an annoying case seeing as it says that it's a 'lost village' in Wales, and so that makes me inclined to believe that it's probably a fictitious storytelling project, but I can't be sure seeing as someone's certainly put a lot of effort into it. Its prior existence is apparently only attested to in the works of a poet called J. Edgar Rhys (writing in the 1920s) but from a cursory Google search it doesn't look like this man ever existed. As far as I'm concerned, Pontyddim is fictional - and thus the creatures that allegedly occupied it at one time should probably be considered bogus as well. That's a shame...
