In my search for mythological creatures and fantasy worldbuilding ideas for them I have organized my creatures into two documents the final list and the rejected creatures. the rejected creatures document is allowed to be a total mess of long cut and paste descriptions any new monsters I have learned of and monsters that i only sort of like when I do finally come up with a cool way to think about or portray them they go in the final bestiary. creating this list has been a big help because many times I went back and saw a creature on it in a new light. some monsters on the rejected list were better than ones i included immediately, and soe are just interesting enough to get one rough drawing of them but not to make the final bestiary. anyway I figured I would create a thread here for those creatures here because when your worldbuilding and you already have over 1000 monsters as well as additional monsters in the roles of subspecies and recolors of some of them you have to be picky. so here is a thread for anyone to discuss those mythological creatures and cryptids that you are unsure of and people can fight on behalf of its inclusion in your project or give pros and cons
I will start the thread off: The Bloop

I have a lot of monsters that I'm not sure if I will use, others I will put in and out of my project a lot of times (Grootslang and Zburator for example) still others (the list I post down here) are monsters that I really don't know what to do with, they look too much like monsters that are already in my project or they are very difficult to do something cool with.
For your bloop question, I can't help you with that one, I never used it and it isn't even in my reserve lists, I'm not really a fan of it, sounds like a leviathan to me! :-p
My list of Rejected Monsters is: Starting with the letter A.
Ababil (Iranian) – Avian / Swarm (Small) = They are too holy in the religion, so I don't dare to touch them in any way.
Abada (African) – Unicorn (Small) = I liked them as small unicorns, but ABookOfCreatures said they were just Rhinoceroses, so I removed them from my project.
Abura-Bo (Japanese) – Elemental / Shifter (Medium) = I don't like the idea of Monks in my project, so this fire monk doesn't have a place in it.
Acalica (Bolivian) – Fairy (Small) = I only liked them in the depiction of an artist, but the real creature looks more like a old man, already got Nuberu, so no need for Acalica.
Achiyalabopa (N-American) – Avian (Large)(Neutral) = I already have birds with sharp feathers, and rainbow-colored creatures. But this creature still is kinda awesome.
Adar Llwch Gwin (Welch) – Chimerae (Large) = Never knew what to do with it, I already use a lot of other griffons.
Adhene (Manx) – Fairy (Small) = They got replaced by Danthienne, which much better resembles a vain faerie.
Aegipan (Greek) – Merfolk / Centauric (Medium) = Half goat and half fish or mermaid-satyr hybrid, I didn't really cared for both versions so I put it on the list.
Aetos (Greek) – Avian (Large)(Hostile) = This giant organ eating eagle/vulture is cool I guess, but I already have so many eagle monsters.
Agrius (Greek) – Giant / Shifter (Huge) = Mythology is really vague about this one, sometimes it's a half-bear half giant at other times they are just giants...
Ah Muzen Cab (Mayan) – Beastman (Medium)(Neutral) = The king of bees, not sure what to do with it, maybe add it as boss.
Alan (Philippine) – Beastman (Medium) = Maybe add them as a male variant of the Harpy? Not sure.
Alphyn (M-European) – Chimerae (Medium) (Neutral) = I always thought of them as pretty random chimerae creatures, but many people seem to love it, so that makes it more attractive to use.
Anhanga (Brazilian) – Spirit (Large)(Friendly) = I already have a lot of Deer-based creatures, and Anhanga are chaotic-Shape shifters which can take any form, which I'm never a fan of.
Anzu (Mesopotamian) – Chimerae (Large) = I like these creatures, but I never know what to do with them...
Arrach (Scottish) – Aberration (Small)(Hostile) = You can do a lot with these invisible monsters, but I want invisibility to be a rare ability, not a common ability, and Parandrus was my first choice.
Arragouset (French) – Fae (Medium)(Hostile) = I loved it because of the art of ABookOfCreatures, but he said the shell-weapons weren't really a thing, so I removed it and gave the shell-weapon thing to the Shellycoat.
Aswang (Philippine) – Demon / Vampire (Medium)(Hostile) = I kinda use them as Manananggal and Berbalang, but sometimes I used the Aswang as wingless variant of the Aswang family.
Atosis (N-American) – Beastman (Medium)(Hostile) = This was always my shaman lizardman, but I always remove it again.
Attorcroppes (German) – Fairy (Small) = Snake Faeries, but ABookOfCreatures said they were fake myths, so I removed them.
Aunyaina (Brazilian) – Chimerae (Large) = These boar/apes are too much like my Nependis.
Axex (Egyptian) – Chimerae (Large) = Another Griffon.

Abada- for my project I made a category of magical creatures related that evolved from the same ancestors as both rhinos and unicorns and the Abada is in that category. Abura-bo - eh but the similar creature the kazenbo is on my maybe list- its a monk who performed self Imolation but wavered in their beliefs during the process and became a ghostly monk that always horribly burned and on fire, I think that is an interesting curse. it doesnt quite make my final list tho
acalica- is very plain but yeah that one artwork in the google search was nice
Adhene- there are more interesting fallen angel fairys
Aegipan- hmm hes a god but having an aquatic pan in a pantheon might be fun
Aetos- sooo many bird myths where its basically just big, i guess all the just bigger than normal birds could be lumped together into one big bird category
Agrius and Oreus- bears are a nice addition to greek myth and there needs to be more mythological bears in general. vicious cruel cursed cannibal half bears that hate the gods have potential heck they can even be the real myth equivalent of werebears. but yeah in the end they might be a little plain looking and BEAR-ly make into my final list
Aswang - pretty much the mascot of Phillipino mythology. this category of creatures has many different creatures and versions so as one monster its pretty versatile and could gain a lot of strange powers. and being the main creature out of the creatures that use their tongues to prey on unborn fetuses its pretty abhorrent.
Axex- in rpg it would make a good recolored griffin subspecies
Aunyaina- the story around them is interesting but I dont know what to do with this one either
Alphyn- I hear its the same creature as the enfield and as a creature created for a human crest i guess its summoned from the imagination idk

Creatures I really don't know what to do with, but which sound very interesting are the Daemones Ceramici, 5 greek Spirits/daemons which plagued the craftsman potter. The three I'm interested in are: Syntribos (Σύντριβος; a.k.a. Suntribus) — the shatterer (shatter, crush; syntribô) Smaragos (Σμάραγος; a.k.a. Smaragus) — the smasher (smash, crash; smarageô) Asbetos (Ασβετος; a.k.a. Asbetus) — the charrer (char, scorch; asbetos) The other two are nothing special. I'm thinking of the D&D Destrachan when I hear the Syntribos, shatterer with sound abilities. The Smaragos, which name sounds like Emerald (Smaragd in Dutch) could be some golem-type creature, maybe an Emerald golem which smashes stuff with its disfigured arms and hands/claws. Asbetos, which name sounds a bit like asbestos, could be like the Heroes of Might and Magic Magog creatures, which throw fireballs and look demonic, they could also animate fire maybe, or throw green poisonous fire, as asbestos is pretty lethal.

anti pottery daemons huh. I kind of picture them as anti-golems, they also give off a household spirit vibe like brownies and boggarts. but thats all that really come to mind reading those short descriptions.

chaoticmythboy, do you have any webpage/deviant/tumblr where I can see your worldbuilding project? Or a list of monsters you're using? I'm kinda curious what other people come up with! So far I'm one of the rare people that have some worldbuilding stuff online, so it would be cool if I can see some others in action lol!

I have not started any actual world building and i will eventually post my full list of creatures on here I might have to cut out descriptions or clean it up or something. but anyway I do have an art tumblr where i do art of the creatures I like and include all the lore and even some personal ideas about them. I have not been active lately but i will pick it back up soon and i will admit the earlier posts are the better ones. chaotic-myth-boy.tumblr.com/

Awesome to see more people love the obscure mythology monsters! I really love your version of the Akateko (the tree with hand-fruit) it inspired me to use the monster in a very different way! Thanks! To stay on-topic: Ashiarai Yashiki (Japanese) – Undead (Huge)(Hostile) Is it something you use? And if yes, how do you use it? I once used it as an upgrade for the Camacrusa, but I cut them because they are too funny... I do use the Oniate (much like the Crawling Claws in D&D) and Mano Peluda (Much like the Wall Master enemies in Zelda), I always liked crawling claws/giant hand monsters more than giant legs lol.

aw thank you, im glad I could help too, yeah when I read the description of the Akateko my mind just immediately went a different direction than how the creature is normally portrayed and I kept coming up with new ideas for it i mean a bunch of hands hanging from a tree has more character than just one.
ah the dirty wash my foot giant monster. its deep in my maybe list as well, I would say that if it was used you got to keep all of its comic relief silliness thats where its interestingness comes from. i do like the asssociation with other limb based creatures you are going for. i kinda wonder about combining limb based monster with other monsters in certain setting like giving evil head shaped creatures the ability to attach to a dullahan in battle. or taking apart a zombie and powering it up with monstrous limbs.

I love body part monsters, I use the following in my project: ChonChon (Mapuche) – Undead / Swarm (Small)(Hostile) ChonChon, Dagwanoenyent (N-American) – Undead (Medium)(Hostile) Oniate (N-American) – Undead / Swarm (Small)(Hostile) Oniate, Mano Peluda (Mexican) – Undead (Medium)(Hostile) Manananggal (Philippine) – Demon / Vampire (Medium)(Hostile) Manananggal, Berbalang (Philippine) – Demon (Medium)(Hostile) I also use the Polong as living blood elemental, created from the blood of criminals and Deities (greater polong) Manananggal are winged demonic humanoids in Mythika, they behave much like the demons from Evil Dead, doing strange things to their own bodies, in the case of Manananggal they start out as a winged horrifying complete humanoid, then when you give it few hits it's upper body separates from the lower body and its intestines become snake-like tentacles, after a few more hits the head of the Manananggal burst free from the torso and keeps attacking with the long hollow tongue, the head also grows wings on its head to keep it afloat. The Berbalang can't separate from its body parts but it can separate from its soul/spirit, becoming a team of flesh and spirit. And while the ChonChon is a flying human-sized head, the Dagwanoenyent is a giant flying head, being able to swallow a person whole, only to rain down fleshy parts from its stumpy neck.

From these 7 monsters, you just posted I myself use 2 in my project. I love the Hypnalis, its a dream-killing white cobra in my project, I took inspiration from Freddy Kruger and the Pathfinder version of the Hypnalis which is awesome. Its poison-bite causes sleep/coma in my project and the creature can be encountered in the dream-world and is one of the few creatures that can actually kill you from within your dreams. The other creature I use is the Automaton-upgrade the Talos, a very big bronze automaton (iron golem) creature, nothing special, I just wanted an iron golem monster, and Automatons are just that, Talos is the very big one. I never really cared for Rubezahl, Satyrus, Sooterkin or Habrok, but the Mastopogon is very interesting! Too bad the boob-joke thing is so horrid, this could actually be a very cool prehistoric fish monster much like the Rhizodus or Hyneria which are awesome creatures! Mastopogon is in my maybe-list, but the boob-thing is even in its name so it is hard to cut out...

There are no Kami in my project, but instead, I use them as sword/iron/steel/metal Gnomes, as Gnomes are very close to the elements in my project, the Futsunushi was perfect for this, it can animate weapons, and create powerful weapons. They are kinda like the Ragewalker, but smaller and more gnome-like. I would really give them a chance if I were you! The others, not so much :-p

I would probably just use it as a living sword. After all that's the ideal form for a creature representing swords to be able to take.
Today's rejected creatures are the phantom kangaroo, ghost deer, partridge creek monster, crawfordsville monster, kaw kaw, skvader (to make the trio with wolpertingers and jackalopes) and the Michigan dogman- probably just combine with other myths into dog people category.
